Things to do in Westbourne Terrace


When you are organising a holiday break in London, there are numerous factors you need to take into account before booking your accommodation.

Proximity to public transport options and tube stations, bars and restaurants, and attractions are all important and so you really need to do some research into the area you are planning on staying in.

The Westbourne Terrace area is ideal in respect to all the above criteria; there is enough to keep you occupied in the immediate vicinity but the great transfer links also mean that if you want to venture out into the other part of London, you can do so with very little hassle.

Transport in the area

There are a number of underground stations in the area which makes travel to and from Westbourne Terrace very easy to do. Lancaster Gate (Central), Bayswater (District, Circle), Paddington (Bakerloo, Circle, District), and Marble Arch (Central) are all within walking distance from our hotels and there are also a number of bus routes as well.

Events in the area

New Year Decoration

Many of the events that take place in the Westbourne Terrace vicinity are centred around Hyde Park. The Who will be playing at Barclaycard British Summer Time in June and of course the BBC Proms in the Park will be taking place in the legendary open space in September.

NewsRevue at Canal Cafe Theatre will be running until the end of February and this unique comedic show combines song, sketches and current affairs in a fast-paced and hilarious manner.

Hyde Park, one of London’s finest outdoor areas, is right on your doorstep when you stay in the Westbourne Terrace area.

As well as the many fantastic monuments there are to see in the park, you can sail on the serene Serpentine Lake or, if there’s one on, catch an open air concert.

Some of the most iconic monuments in the park include the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain and the Achilles Statue.

The park is a great place to spend the morning and take in the green scenery that London has to offer. Be sure to head over to Speakers’ Corner for the chance to join in a discussion or just listen to a debate.

Eating, drinking and entertainment

The dining and drinking options in the area are impressive in terms of both variety and quality, and you have to look no further than the restaurants in the Park Grand Paddington and Park Grand London Heathrow hotels as proof of this.

From breakfast through to dinner, these fine eateries provide you with a stylish array of mains and well-stocked bars.

If you fancy venturing further afield for your food, then do not fear, there are plenty of options very near to our hotels.The Brasserie in the Hilton London Paddington hotel offers traditional English fare with an Asian twist while you’ll enjoy a fusion of spices at Flavours of India. The Waterway is an intriguing little gastro pub with Scandinavian influences – perfect for food or just drinks – and Bizzarro is a great option for those after an Italian.

Close to the Lancaster Gate tube station, you will find an incredible French-style bistro Bel Canto. Not only is this a great place to eat but the entertainment here is also second to none. The venue combines fine dining with live opera in a unique and charming way and the seasonal menu is deliciously accompanied with French and Italian wines. It is perfect whether you are an opera aficionado or just a foodie with a passion for something new.

Once dinner has settled, there’s also plenty to keep you occupied in the area in terms of entertainment. If you are after a laugh, The Canal Café Theatre is the perfect place to go. It sits in Little Venice and is above the Bridge House Pub, an excellent place for a few drinks regardless of whether you’re here for a performance or not.

For drinks, check out the Steam Bar in the Hilton London Paddington hotel for trendy cocktails and a variety of beers. The Mad Bishop and Bear and the Cleveland Arms are also great places for a drink.


If you want to go a bit more upmarket, the the Paddington Champagne bar is an excellent choice. They have an extensive choice of different sparkling wines and if champers isn’t your thing there is of course a range of cocktails, beers and other wines to sample.

Being in London, you may wish to visit a more “typical boozer”. Well, where better than a place that’s supported by one of the city’s most celebrated breweries? The Victoria in Paddington has twice been voted Fuller’s pub of the year and is a great place to go for a relaxed pint or a hearty meal. It’s been in place since the early 1800s and as soon as you step through the door you’ll be whisked back to the Victorian age – a visit here is a historic experience in itself.

The Paddington area is actually full of great bars and pubs so you might want to just walk around and pick a random place you like the look of.

Attractions in the area

As well as Hyde Park, there are a number of other places to see of note in the area around Westbourne Terrace.

Music lovers may want to head up to the Abbey Road studios where The Beatles recorded their album of the same name – reenacting the famous cover photo is optional but highly recommended. If you are on the hunt for antiques or other original items, you must take in the Portobello. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, the atmosphere at one of London’s most famous markets makes it an enjoyable way to spend a few hours in the capital.

You may also want to take a trip down the London canals from Little Venice, which is something you perhaps would not think of for a day trip out in London. This is particularly pleasant in the summer when the weather is fine.

There is also the Odeon Whiteleys in Paddington which plays all the most recent blockbusters and is particularly useful if the weather is bad and you have younger children with you.

Shopping in the area


Although there are plenty of places to shop in the Westbourne Terrace area, you may want to take a short trip down to Kensington where you will find the more iconic retail venues in London.

Head to Knightsbridge underground station on the Piccadilly line and you will be right between Harrods and Harvey Nichols, two of the best places in the capital for shopping.

The excellent Natural History Museum and the Science Museum are also incredibly close-by in the event you’d also like to take in some culture before you indulge in the shops.

Closer to our hotels, you will find Appleby, which sells a fantastic range of unique vintage clothing, L’Artisan du Chocolat for real foodie indulgence, and The Winery whose incredible array of fine tipples will leave you stunned.

Romantic weekend breaks



London is a place of great romance, from its wonderful restaurants to the rich history and sensational architecture. The amount of things on offer here make it the perfect place for a city break and, if you are with the person you love, there’s no better place than the capital.

After a day of seeing the sights, take a stroll through Hyde Park as the sun sets before heading out for drinks in Kensington, and then for a fantastic meal in one of the city’s incredible eateries.
