As one of the major international airports, Heathrow gets a lot of stopover traffic from people may need to spend anything from a couple of hours through to a day or two waiting for their connecting flight.  If you find yourself in this position, there are many ways to fill your time without having to hang around the airport for hours on end.

It is possible to see some of the best sights in London if you only have a short amount of time.  Here are our top tips:-

Open Spaces

London has some stunning green parks and they make the perfect place to stretch your legs after being cooped up on a long flight.  Hyde Park, Kew Gardens and Kensington Gardens are all well worth a visit and offer picturesque surroundings which will allow you to relax and unwind.  There are also a number of lovely cafes dotted around the parks which you could lunch in or just grab a quick cup of coffee depending on how much time you have to spare.

Walk!

Although it might seem more convenient to get the tube, if you have just come off a flight the last thing you need is to be cooped up again, particularly if you are simply in London waiting for your next flight.  Walking around London is not only refreshing but it also offers you the chance to see sights you might otherwise have missed if you were catching the tube from one attraction to the next.

Take Your Time

When you only have a short amount of time in the city it can be tempting to rush from one sight to the next to try and fit in as much as possible but, the trouble with this is that you often don’t take in every detail as you are trying to be as quick as possible.  Instead, try choosing just one or two attractions and slow down, relax and enjoy them.  Not only will you learn more about them but it will also stop you from feeling stressed and harried ahead of your next flight.
