Bars and pubs nearby

Whether you are looking for a place to have a few quiet drinks or fancy hitting a the bars after your evening meal, you won’t go far wrong in the area around Lancaster Gate.

Right next to the station, you will find the beautiful Mitre. Not only is this fantastic pub located in a Grade II listed building, it is every inch an example of a traditional English watering hole. With finely crafted cocktails, carefully selected beers and a mouth-watering menu on offer, the Mitre is the perfect place to start your evening. For a lively scene, head next door to the Swan for live music and a great atmosphere. The so-called ‘home of hospitality’ is a welcoming place to spend a few hours.

Further north, towards Paddington tube station, you will find a whole host of highly-rated pubs to choose from. The Leinster Arms, Sawyers Arms and Dickens are all located within walking distance from one another and offer that old-fashioned pub style with a modern twist.

All three of these establishments are warm and cosy, with great menus full of delicious pub grub.

The Victoria, Paddington is another great example of an old boozer in London. It has been around since 1838 and is owned by one of London’s own breweries Fuller’s. Another place that’s known for its great food and wonderful hospitality. Literature buffs may find it interesting  that Charles Dickens apparently spent time in the establishment when writing ‘Our Mutual Friend’, adding to the pub’s already rich history.

Cinemas near Lancaster Gate

Fancy catching a film in the capital? Well you are in luck because there are plenty of cinemas close to Lancaster Gate. For mainstream movies, there are two Odeon Cinemas within a stone’s throw from the tube station: Whiteleys and the Lounge. Both are in Bayswater on the Queensway and here you’ll be able to see all the biggest blockbusters that are out at the moment.

If you are after a slightly more alternative experience then look no further than the Gate Cinema at Notting Hill Gate. This art house venue has a charming interior, complete with red curtain and plush chairs. Here you’ll be able to see films that won’t be getting played at the bigger cinemas as well as reruns of popular classics.

Hyde Park

Lancaster Gate tube station could not really be any closer to Hyde Park unless it were actually located in the Speakers’ Corner! As a result, you really should take a stroll through the capital’s largest open space!

Split in two by the serene Serpentine, the park has plenty to offer as an attraction in its own right. There are many monuments here including the Diana Monument Fountain, Achilles and the London Bombings memorial.

Kensington Palace and the Serpentine Gallery are also within the park’s grounds and make for a great stop on a walk through the green space. If you are pressed for time, why not just take a morning jaunt through its grounds for a bit of fresh air? It’s a great way to start a day in London.
