London is one of the best places on earth to spend New Year’s Eve, and exploring the city is also a pretty wonderful way to spend New Year’s Day! There’s lots of variety in this year’s New Year events, providing everything from formal dining to lavish firework displays.

In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at some of the top locations in London for ringing in 2020 in style!

1.  Watch the fireworks at the London Eye

The main New Year’s Eve fireworks display in London is world famous, and with good reason. It’s a stunning display of pyrotechnic skill set to music, and is so impressive it’s regularly watched by revellers who preferred to stay home, too!

The main viewing platform has been ticketed since 2014, which makes grabbing a spot a little more difficult for this year. Tickets went on sale in September, and have already sold out. However, if you’re eager to be in the crowd, you can always take a look at ticket re-sale sites and hope for an opportunity.

Alternatively, there are some other wonderful places where you can see the fireworks without having to buy a ticket, many of which offer a more relaxed pace while staying at the Park Grand.

2. Take a trip along the River Thames

River Thames

As a major London landmark, the River Thames is both a working part of the city and also a fantastic leisure-based waterway. On New Year’s Eve, you can enjoy this area in a variety of different was, including booking a luxurious meal on-board an equally luxurious River cruiser, or try a more high-octane approach in a fast-paced clipper.

Some of the most popular options include the City Cruises’ New Year’s Eve cruises, which include everything from dinner cruising to speedboat rides and more traditional boat trips earlier in the day, many of which will also provide you with complementary champagne and live music performances.

Thames Rockets present another alternative, sailing close to London’s fireworks display before it happens. Thamesjet offers a speedboat ride and celebratory hamper whilst giving you a great view of the fireworks – a wonderful option if you missed out on grabbing a ticket to the viewing platform during your stay at the Park Grand Heathrow.

3. Visit Southbank Centre’s New Year’s Eve Spectacular

The Southbank Centre represents the real creative hub of London, and this New Year’s Eve celebration is every bit as spectacular as the name suggests!

As well as offering wonderful views of the London fireworks thanks to its ample outdoor space, the event will cater to a wide variety of different artistic tastes with dancing, live performances and live music throughout the evening.

It’s a great mixture of quirky art venue and traditional New Year’s Eve Party, making this a particularly splendid way to spend your time. To help ensure you’re in the city on the day of the event, book at one of our pay later hotels to secure your spot.

4. Dine at a top London restaurant

At the Park Grand, we don’t only offer comfortable, stylish accommodation – we also specialise in fine dining. For those who prefer to keep things more refined, we recommend booking a table at your hotel or enjoying a Park Grand Kensington Indian afternoon tea. This is only only a great way to say goodbye to 2019 in style, but would also make a great addition to your New Year’s Day plans, when you may be feeling a little fragile!

What better way to welcome in the new year than with great food and a new twist on a British tradition?

5. Join a New Year’s Eve Pub Crawl

If you’re feeling sociable, then a trip to Zoo Bar’s New Year’s Eve Pub Crawl is a wonderful way to meet new people and enjoy a glass of bubbly at midnight. The starting venue itself is designed for good times, and you’ll have the chance to get to know some of your fellow revellers while getting into the pub crawl spirit!

6. Go for luxury at New Year at the Gold Mansion

This is a particularly dazzling way to spend your New Year’s Eve, with a golden dress code and a selection of exclusive dance floors and venues taking part.

The address will only be given out to ticket holders 48-hours before the event gets underway, but this elusive New Year’s celebration promises VIP areas, an art room and plenty of street food. There’s also a prize for the best-dressed guest, so be sure to really push the boat out!

7. Join the Natural History Museum for a party

As one of London’s most popular museums, the Natural History Museum also has a strong reputation for great events. This year’s New Year’s Eve celebration, the Creatures of the Night party, will include a vast array of wonderful features which utilise this stunning space – including UV paint, musical bingo and mask-making classes.

If you’re looking for a fun party in great surroundings, this might just tick all the boxes.

8. Experience London’s comedy scene

London parties needn’t be formal, thanks to the many great comedy venues scattered around the city. One of our favourite events for 2019 is the New Year’s Eve Comedy Festival, sure to help you start 2020 with a few laughs.

9. Enjoy London’s theatre scene

If comedy isn’t your thing but you’re still in the mood for a live performance, then head to the Royal Albert Hall for a performance of festive favourite, The Nutcracker. This is an elegant and delightfully seasonal way to ring in the new year.

10. Join the Viennese New Year’s Eve Gala

The Barbican is often noted for its great events, and this year’s New Year celebration is certainly no different. With the classical music of Strauss and a formal dress code, it’s an opulent way to greet 2020.
